Vacation & Lost Teeth

Having so much fun out of state at my parent's home....too bad my camera and the folk's computer can't "talk" or I would show you the fun! We have spent time in my parent's pool each evening, having to literally drag Mr C out each time for dinner. Miss M and Nana plan to make a heart shaped cake tomorrow for my brother and sis in law's 2nd anniversary. We also plan to hit goodwill and another thrift store in town tomorrow. I have such fond memories when my cousin would come to visit from Texas...we would spend an hour or so trying things on at the thrift store and she would tell her friends back home all her great finds came for a "cute little boutique where her cousin lives." We also went to the salavation army the day before a sack sale. (All you can fit in a paper grocery sack for either $2 or $4...it has been over years now and I can't remember!) We picked out what we wanted to buy, then hung them all on the rack in one spot so when the store opened the next morning, we just went to straight to our stash and shoved in our sacks! We also learned that you could fit even more in a sack if you tightly rolled each item. Yes, the money went to to a good organization but remember, we were just high school students with a very limited clothing budget!
Also, when I get home next week I can't wait to post pics of the craft Nana, Miss M and I worked on for Miss M's 6th birthday party next month...cute and fun!! Oh yeah and Miss M lost her first tooth yesterday - when we get home next week we will use my old tooth fairy pillow. She asked me last week if the tooth fairy was real and I asked her what she thought. "Probably not, but can we just pretend anyway?"

Hot Days, Fun Times


Well, we handed out 13 invitations and had 3 families come - wish more would have stopped by but it was still fun. We didn't meet any new neighbors but some of the neighbors who came didn't know one another, so they met someone new. I am glad we were only outside an hour though because it was H-O-T! Miss M enjoyed making a sign and a list of the toppings. Also, if you like mint and chocolate, try this...sooo good! We also made time for a picnic with some MOPS friends. The playground is super shady and has fountains that shoot up out of the ground, so the kids stayed pretty cool - even though it was 90+ degrees! I didn't get my camera out until lunch so I didn't get any water shots - next time though.

Back from Down Under

Whew....made it through a week of late night at VBS. The kids seemed to like the sheep, but 1 bit the dust early in the week. Also, genius that I am, I didn't pop the balloons since we weren't making a pinata. They were in my car Sunday morning during church and it was a pretty warm day. Air expands when heated which caused the balloons to push the limits of the paper mache. When I opened my car after church, there was some white "sheep skin", pieces of balloon, and fiber fill in the back seat. We were able to cover up the gaps with fiberfill though and they still looked good. Kinda surprised they didn't get too hot in my garage the week prior to VBS though. Anyway...lesson learned!

Got my father in laws gift in the mail today but I am still working on my dad's gift. He reads this, so I can't post a picture or tell you anything about it until after he gets it. I still have a few days to work on it because my parents will be in town on Wednesday so we don't have to mail it.

Miss M and I decided to have a little ice cream party on Monday evening in an effort to get to know a few more neighbors. We know the ones right behind us, next door, and across the street, but that's it. So we stood in our front yard and made invitations for every house we could see from the driveway. We will let you know how the party turns out! Here is a shot of the invitations we made. (It is blurry so you can't see our address in case we don't know you in real life.)
The kids and I visited a local historical carousel last week and also had the opportunity to meet Clifford. Mr C high-fived him but did want a picture. Miss was more than happy to pose though.

I will leave you with a few candid shots to bring a smile on this almost summer day! Not really sure the occasion for the tiara, but she wore it the whole time we were out - even to the grocery store!This last one I like to call "redneck massage therapy". They had a blast using the electric neck massage thing to tickle each other's back and feet.
As for crafting this week - just had time for the invitations and made a little hairbow in about 3 minutes using leftover ribbon. I have a project idea that we hope to try this weekend though...will share if it is worth posting.

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. As I mentioned last week, we have VBS at our church Sunday -Thursday (6:15-9PM); with me teaching and Miss M attending, it makes for some late nights! I will be back soon...promise!!

Baa Baa Black Sheep

VBS (Vacation Bible School) is next week at our church - I am working in 3rd grade and Miss M will be attending. The theme is Boomerang Express with the Australian outback as a backdrop. Australia...kangaroos, koalas, sheep....SHEEP?? Yes, there are over 120 MILLION sheep in Australia- who knew? Our lead teacher, Mrs. L., decided to stage our classroom as a sheep station and I volunteered to make paper mache sheep as part of the decoration. She graciously indulged my crafty bend and volunteered to help. Of course, Miss M was in on the fun as well.

I didn't take pictures of all the stages, but we blew up two balloons for the body and attached two smaller ones for the head. We cut paper towel tubes to the desired length and taped them on for legs. Then it was messy time...slapping the newspaper on with the paper mache paste. (I just use 1 C of liquid starch to 1/2 C of flour) The finished product....














After that was dry, I used white spray paint for the body and black craft paint on the legs and heads. Miss M and Mrs. L used spray adhesive and fiber-fill to give the sheep that oh so fluffy appearance.

Even Mr C called them "peeps - BAA!"










Paper mache is lots of fun and as Nikki pointed out a few days ago - it is a project that takes several days to complete, eliminating that question hated by moms across the country in the summer..."What are we gonna do today?"

Vacation Pictures & Catching Up

As mentioned last week, the wee ones and I met some of the family in Branson for a little vacation. Mr C enjoyed the pool and tram ride in the Silver Dollar City parking lot the best! As you know, Miss M has a need for speed and that was met by some of the bigger rides, although she wasn't tall enough for the big coasters. (I don't think she would have ridden them anyway!)

This shot was NOT staged - he crawled into bed, set up his pillow and dog Bob, pulled up the blanket, and asked for "me read Mama" - then crossed his leg on his knee and proceeded to check out the brochure for the animal show we were going to see in the morning.


The MOPS garage sale didn't raise as much as last year, but we were still pleased and very blessed by the proceeds. I have only been to the airport in Nashville and I am looking forward to exploring the city a little.

Finally, I think our strawberry plants are just about spent for the season. I was able to pick enough after church though for this VERY fresh strawberry pie! The green beans should be ready for picking in another week or two and the cucumbers are looking good too. It has been a little wet for the okra, but it will do well in the dry and hot days later this summer. Our tomato plants are looking a little weak though, so I might give them a boost with some additional fertilizer this week. Also, about fertilizer...I have been thinking about having a compost bin for the garden....any of you have experience in this area?


I will leave you with a shot of the above mentioned berry pie....Andy and I had a slice after I took the picture...YUMMY!! Safety fair in the morning and then working on a paper mache sheep for VBS tomorrow afternoon with a gal from church. Depending on how they look, we might post a picture or two of that later!

There's No Place Like Home!

We had a fun 2 day visit with my mom, brother, and sister-in-law. It was the only the 2nd time Mr C has stayed in a hotel and he was a little confused. Everytime I took something out of out bag, he would grab it and say "Away, Mama...backpack". Sharing a room/bed with him was also interesting...he had the giggles and wiggles the first night. Of course it set Miss M to laughing too because she and Nana were in the other bed.
I will post some pics later this week..have a busy week/weekend ahead. I was only home about an hour yesterday and it was time to head to church for a VBS meeting. Bible study this AM and then back for garage sale drop off duty! Our MOPS groups is holding our 2nd Annual Mega Garage Sale this weekend - all proceeds go to help send the leaders to the national convention. We sent 5 to Dallas last year and hope to have a more attend in Nashville this fall. So I will be BUSY BUSY BUSY!!
