Kitchen Renovation....

As you know, I recently had new kitchen flooring installed. (I should add that I was the assistant - not that I could do it by myself though!) I have been too busy to craft the last week...the MOPS pancake dinner was a success in many ways. We had lots of members there to help cook, serve, and clean up, plus over 130 people came out for dinner. The first MOPS meeting of the year was not as well attended as in the past but we still had a good meeting with several new faces.
We had friends over Sunday afternoon/evening for an early Labor Day celebration. Miss M enjoyed playing dress up with one of the boys who came. We cooked brats and hot dogs, played on the swingset, laughed, and just relaxed.
Monday morning we decided that the ugly kitchen wallpaper had to go. It came off pretty easily, but we quickly learned why there was wallpaper...the walls are in really bad shape in several areas. After reading and talking to folks, it seems that skim coating is the way to go. Cupcake Daddy is working lots of overtime lately, so the plan is to hire a neighbor with construction experience to get it finished and ready for us to paint. I never seem to have both money and time at the SAME time, do you?
In other news, we are considering adopting a dog. Our Murray died in January 2007 and we really are a dog family. He was a puppy when we first got him and Bailey is about four years old. She is a rescue dog and came to be with her present family about 2 years ago. Her owner has been out of work for several months and decided it is time to find a new home for Bailey. We may go meet her today or tomorrow, but I am afraid we will fall in love and can't turn away if we see her in person...especially Miss M.
I will keep you posted about our decision....

Re-designed Vintage Jewelry

When my grandmommie moved into a retirement home about 12 years ago, I was able to select some of her costume jewelry. I wasn't sure at the time what I would do with it, but thought I might have an idea some day down the road. She has been gone almost 3 years now and the jewelry was packed away in my closet until a few weeks ago.
You know how heavily beaded necklaces are all the rage right now? Well, I decided that the necklaces I had might just have some wearability in them after all. But the big, clunky clip on earrings...not so much. One was already falling apart, even if I wanted to wear it.
My talented beading friend from church was so sweet to take the earrings apart, add just a few beads and other materials, and turn this.....

Into this....
I especially LOVE how the purple set turned out!! The necklaces are the same, but new bracelets and sweet, dainty earrings to match for each set - just my style!
I also ordered some ring blanks and can't wait to turn some earrings into rings....again, more of my grandmother's things, with the addition of some from the other grandma too! I have to get the MOPS Pancake Fundrasier (tomorrow night) and first meeting (Friday) over and done with first!
(For those of you who go to church with me, it was Marqie! Didn't she do a great job?)
